We know the coming weeks will be rather quiet, with the summer lull approaching. MTG has released Marvel, Riftbound and Lorcana are coming at the end of the month, so we're turning to Pokémon for our dopamine fix. Well, Pokémon has just made a big announcement that will send shivers down the spine of any player who has ever been even remotely interested in their game.
The worldwide release of the new 30th Celebration special expansion has just been announced for September 16, 2026. Forget the summer calm because they haven't done things halfway. The set will be composed entirely of foil cards.
Here's the complete breakdown of what awaits you in September.
The Booster Pack Structure
If you enjoyed the Celebrations or 151 sets, the booster pack structure of this edition will make you happy. Each pack will contain 5 foil cards and one foil Energy card.
IN ADDITION, each booster pack will contain one of 30 unique Pikachu illustrations! Whether you're a die-hard fan of the iconic Pokémon or a completionist, the hunt for all 30 Pikachu cards is going to be epic.
The expansion also introduces a brand-new rarity called Futuristic Rare, enhanced by artwork from Japanese artist Yoshirotten himself, notably featuring Mew and Mewtwo in a unique chrome art style, in addition to a Classic Collection sub-series bringing back 30 legendary cards from the game's history.
The line is being released in waves
For the first wave on September 16, several classic formats are arriving so we can open our first packs:

Elite Trainer Box
This is THE product to look forward to. The standard box contains 9 booster packs, game accessories (tokens, dice, etc.), and a Nidorina Illustration Rare promo card. The Pokémon Center version will have 11 booster packs.

The Poster Collection Box
Includes 3 booster packs and the legendary Kanto trio (Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres) as promo cards.

EX Boxes
The Greninja ex & Sylveon ex boxes are ideal for players who want to play more casually. These boxes include 4 booster packs and the featured Pokémon in a playable promo version and in oversized format.

Mini-Tins
Always perfect for those on a tighter budget, they contain 2 booster packs, a sticker, and an art card. But be aware, they're only being released on October 6th in the second wave.
Big Arrivals
Pokémon has hidden its biggest releases among those scheduled for later in the fall. They wanted to make us wait a little longer.

Espeon ex & Umbreon ex Battle Decks
Note that these are not your average starter decks. These are 60-card, fully foiled decks. The Espeon deck will include a Victini Illustration Rare, while the Umbreon deck will come with a Zeraora. And they're gorgeous!

The Ultra-Premium Collections "Day & Night" (November 6)
Two massive box sets themed around day and night. Each box will contain: a playmat, sleeves, a deck box, metal dice, a Pikachu ex promo (illustrated by Yoshirotten), 29 30th Celebration booster packs, and most importantly, a special Classic Collection booster pack.
In Conclusion
It's easier to understand why Pokémon hasn't been very active lately. This anniversary set is shaping up to be truly fantastic, celebrating the game through nostalgia, modern mechanics, and stunning cards.
Mark your calendars! September 16. Don't miss the Pokémon 30th Anniversary!
