Last Sunday, I participated in the Legacy 1K tournament at Face à Face Montréal.
First off, although I love the format, I don't play Legacy very often. Face à Face Montréal is one of the only stores that offers weekly Legacy nights, with a great, welcoming community, and it's difficult for me to travel to Montreal during the week. I still keep an eye out for the few weekend tournaments with attractive prizes so I can enjoy this wonderful format.
Hello everyone! Last Sunday, I decided at the last minute to play the RCQ Sealed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle at the Face à Face store. Although I'd already qualified for the next RC in Gatineau in May, I had a free day and I'm always excited to compete with a new set. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to be the case for many people, as there were only 16 of us, which contrasts sharply with the recent Lorwyn Eclipsed sealed events and their forty or so players.
Comme vous l'avez peut-être lu au courant du week-end, j'ai participé au Regional Championship (RC) à Vancouver.
Dalia and I were in Toronto all weekend to compete in the biggest Magic event in Canadian history. The main tournament, the Magic Spotlight Series Lorwyn Eclipse Sealed, was sold out with 1800 players. For those who played Magic before 2020, it was like going back to the Grand Prix era. A big, competitive tournament with players from all over the world, nestled within a multitude of smaller tournaments, allowing Magic players of all skill levels to have fun. Whether you like Commander, Standard, Modern, Legacy, or Sealed, there was something for everyone.
I'm starting the year off right with a Magic tournament. The first RCQ Standard of the year and my first Standard tournament since last May's RC. The format has changed a lot since then, with several bans hitting Izzet decks (Cori-Steel Cutter and Vivi Ornitier) as well as a rotation in September. Yet, it's still an Izzet deck that's caught my eye.
Another week, another tournament. This time I was playing in my new favorite format, Duel Commander, for the 3rd anniversary tournament of the Duel Commander Québec group at the Collect-Edition store.
Hey! 😄
Saturday morning, I was at the Mount Royal Center playing Magic: The Gathering at the Montreal Tour Weekend in Modern format.
There were about 45 of us for the main event compared to 35 for the RCQ Standard tournament on the same day. I think the low entry fee for the Standard tournament convinced more than a few people to skip Modern.
