With the big reveals coming big and fast since last week, Wizards of the Coast has just confirmed the decklists for the new Welcome Decks that will be released alongside the Secrets of Strixhaven set. For those who want to introduce their friends to the game or simply solidify their foundations, this is an excellent way to start!
These 40-card decks are entirely composed of legal Standard-format cards. Receive them for free by participating in a new player welcome event in-store or by attending our Magic Academy days to learn with us! It's the ideal tool for learning the basics of the game without any hassle. Here's a quick overview of what each deck offers:

White
Its theme is strength in numbers and healing.

This deck relies on a classic strategy for its color: Life Gain and small flying creatures. With cards like Ajani’s Pridemate and Healer’s Hawk, the goal is very simple: gain life to boost your creatures and invade by attacking from the air. It’s a perfect choice for those who like to build armies and charge headlong into the fray.

Blue
Its theme is control of the game and the skies.

The blue deck uses flying creatures like Tempest Djinn to attack with brutal force that is boosted by the number of Islands you control. And that’s not even counting spells like Unsummon and Refute, which are there to control—and slow down—your opponent’s advance. You can therefore choose the pace of the game, gaining an advantage while always having the last word.

Black
Its theme is life drain.

It mainly features lifelink vampires like Vampire Nighthawk and Vampire Spawn. This deck is primarily designed to teach you that your life is also a resource you can use to gain ground on your opponent. And don't let your graveyard be limited to dead creatures. They can return to the battlefield!

Red
The deck that prioritizes speed.

With the red deck, you don't wait. The faster you attack, the harder it is for your opponent to manage the situation. This deck is full of small creatures that attack as soon as they enter the board and direct damage spells like Burst Lightning. And there are dragons and dinosaurs!

Green
The deck of big, powerful creatures.

If you like big, imposing creatures, this is your deck. In a green deck, you generate mana in the early turns with Llanowar Elves and then play intense threats like Pelakka Wurm. It's a very easy way to understand the importance of mana generation and board control.
Why is this important?
You're probably thinking, "Yes, these are decks for learning, but ultimately, after playing a few games, what's the point?"
The decks presented today are composed of Standard-legal cards. They're an excellent foundation for starting a deck in your preferred colors without spending any money. Some of the cards are even frequently used in competitive play. They're here to introduce you to the game and also to help you build your future decks!
Come see us when the Secrets of Strixhaven set is released on April 17th to pick up your Welcome Deck and take the opportunity to bring a friend along to discover the world of Magic: The Gathering!
