Hello to all our Magic enthusiasts,
We're currently in what I personally call the spoiler dead period. You know, that time when Wizards of the Coast bombards us with fascinating stories about upcoming lore, but we don't get much concrete information about the true power of the cards that are coming and will redefine our Standard and Commander decks. It's the time when we all think we'll have to wait the next few weeks because the spoiler season has become almost as long as a new set before they release one.
For now, we know we're returning to Strixhaven University, which, for me, is excellent news. But beyond the story, what does this mean for the average player?

The Return of High-Level Spells
The first time we saw Strixhaven, we were introduced to the Mystical Archives and powerful Sorcery cards. School of Mages brought us Ward and Lesson. And it's been a while since we've delved back into that more calculated and central side of what Magic is all about. I think it's a great time to do so, as the community has become quite fragmented over the last five years. Bringing together the different types of mages to teach them new methods, magical advancements, and so on, really enriches the narrative. And I hope Wizards will show us exactly what they've been planning with this set.
With this new set, I hope we'll see a return of mechanics that value a more strategic approach rather than simply the raw power of creatures, as we're in the context of learning and method. Will we get new cards that incorporate Learn or Magecraft?

A Meta in Waiting
In stores, I sense that many of you are holding back, waiting for the set to be released, whether because the current set doesn't originate from the Magic: The Gathering universe itself, or because Secrets of Strixhaven has the potential to shake up the meta, as we've already seen with its predecessors. Historically, faction-based sets, like the Colleges of Strixhaven, tend to offer very strong synergies that reward those who choose their side early.

What Are You Expecting?
And what are you expecting? Since the card stats haven't all been revealed yet, I'd like to know what your expectations are.
Are you the type to read every line of the story to guess the upcoming mechanics, or are you simply waiting to see what's released and modifying your deck accordingly?
Does the academic atmosphere make you want to play again, or would you have preferred the set to be different?
Come chat with us at the counter this week or on our Discord server. We may not have visuals of the most powerful cards yet, but we have plenty of theories!
See you soon in store!
