Space exploration has officially arrived with the launch of the *Star Trek* crossover in *Magic: The Gathering*. The spoiler season begins today and will run until October 30th. The designers have crafted a clever blend of brand-new, highly thematic mechanics alongside the return of proven, established concepts.

Here is a comprehensive analysis of what these new cards have in store for your upcoming Draft, Constructed, and Commander sessions.

Key New Mechanics

Assimilate

Inspired by the formidable threat of the Borg, "Assimilate" allows you to take control of an opponent’s creature, place a +1/+1 counter on it, and transform it into a Borg Artifact Creature.

Face a Dilemma

*Star Trek* promises to be a set defined by the many choices presented on its cards. This mechanic triggers whenever a player must select one or more modes for a spell or ability.

Federation

In contrast to the rigidity of the Borg, the United Federation of Planets celebrates diversity. "Federation" effects grow more powerful based on the number of non-Borg creature types currently on the battlefield.

Beam Me Up

"Beam Me Up" functions on a principle similar to "Flashback." This mechanic allows you to cast a card from your graveyard, provided you return one of your creatures from the battlefield to your hand.

Returning Fan-Favorite Mechanics

Spacecraft & Station

Previously seen in *Edge of Eternities*, these artifact cards make a return in *Star Trek*. They begin as vehicles or artifacts and accumulate "charge counters"—the more counters they have, the more imposing they become.

Landfall

This mechanic aligns perfectly with the *Star Trek* theme of exploring new worlds.

In-store Prerelease

This set offers a great balance between resource management and in-game decision-making, while also introducing some very compelling new ways to play. We are especially excited to see the "Limited" format scene, which the developers promise will be a lot of fun.

The Star Trek prerelease is taking place on November 6th and 10th! So, come by and join us to discover the new set!
