Hey! 😄
Saturday morning, I was at the Mount Royal Center playing Magic: The Gathering at the Montreal Tour Weekend in Modern format.
There were about 45 of us for the main event compared to 35 for the RCQ Standard tournament on the same day. I think the low entry fee for the Standard tournament convinced more than a few people to skip Modern.
For the tournament, I brought my trusty Izzet Prowess deck, but with a little splash of green for Pick Your Poison in the sideboard.
I know Prowess's position isn't ideal in the current meta, but it's my favorite deck and also the one I practice the most.
I was in a really good mood for this event since I was hosting some friends for the weekend and I was so happy to see them. Since I play Magic a little less, I don't see my friends as often.
The first round didn't go very well. I was playing against Storm, and despite winning the dice roll, I wasn't able to finish my opponent off quickly enough before he executed his combo. Both games were almost identical. I think the first game was in my favor, even without my 5-man mulligan.
In the second round, I played against Jeskai Blink. Things weren't going well for my opponent, and I quickly won both games.
Then, in the third round, I unfortunately lost to Boros Energy despite a very close match that went to three games. I played well around High Noon, but my deck didn't give me enough momentum to gain the upper hand. With a score of 1-2, I knew I wasn't going to make the Top 8, but I wanted to try and salvage my pride and maybe finish 4-2 if luck was on my side... So I lost my fourth round in two games against Simic Ritual, which is normally a matchup where I have a significant advantage 😂
My kingdom for a Lava Dart! 🙏😅
Anyway, not my day at all, and I left the tournament 1-3 despite having rounds left to go play Commander with some friends.
All in all, it was a very nice day full of surprises, and I'm really looking forward to the Lorwyn Eclipsed Spotlight in Toronto in February.
Thanks to everyone for reading, and thanks to Cartes Léo and the guys at Team Cartes-L for the opportunity to share my magical adventures with you! 😊
